This
eight day road trip covered a large area in short amount of time.
I jumped in my car and headed east through the Columbia River Gorge in
Oregon, down Interstate 84 all the way through Idaho before spending the first
two nights in northern Utah. I visited Ogden, Salt Lake City (state
capitol, downtown, and the Mormon Temple), the Saltair junction (near the
Great Salt Lake), Provo, Orem (my first Krispy Kreme experience), and Pleasant
Grove (seeing a cousin). I headed south and east into Utah going through
Price and Moab before stopping at the Arches National Park.
I entered Colorado, crossing through Grand Junction, Leadville (elevation
10,152), Denver (downtown and the state capitol), and Aurora. I visited
northwestern Kansas covering Colby and Oberlin before accidentally hitting
a pigeon on the open road. The bird did not quite make it all the way
across. It knocked out a headlight cover. I got into southwestern
Nebraska driving through McCook, North Platte (spending the night), Ogallala
(neat little old west town storefront) and Kimball. I secured the headlight
cover with some duct tape and headed west into Wyoming with stops in Cheyenne,
Laramie, Rawlins and Green River.
I drove back through Utah and Idaho and returned into Oregon as I enjoyed
the scenery through Ontario, Burns, John Day and Prineville. The trip
ended as I went through the Hood River Valley and the Columbia River Gorge.
