Due
to time and budgetary constraints that year, I was only able to do some day
trips, mainly within the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA metropolitan area as
well as parts of the Columbia Gorge, Longview, WA and Salem, OR. I
had a chance to visit the area attractions for the first time since moving
to the Pacific Northwest.
I had a chance to see Willamette Falls in Oregon City, the Willamette Valley
region (places including Aurora, Woodburn, Salem, Dallas, Independence, and
McMinnville) in northern Oregon, and the lower Columbia River valley in Rainier,
Scappoose and St. Helens (the city, not the volcano) on the Oregon side as
well as Longview, Kelso, Kalama, Woodland, Ridgefield and La Center on the
Washington side.
I
saw the Pittock Mansion in Portland, Oregon as well as Fort Vancouver in
Vancouver, Washington. In my spare time, I had a chance to see the
Vista House and Multnomah Falls in the Columbia Gorge. White Salmon,
Washington resembled a German village. Stevenson, Washington is a nice
town as well. I also went up to Zigzag and Government Camp, Oregon,
near Mount Hood. A couple of years ago, I visited the zoo in Portland
(formerly the Washington Park Zoo, now called the Oregon Zoo) with a friend.
Of
course, there's always a good movie to see.
