I
took a ten day trip which involved air travel to Phoenix, Arizona then to
Las Vegas, Nevada. After getting a rental car, I visited with family
for a couple of days in Las Vegas. While I was there, I had a chance
to visit numerous hotels and casinos throughout the area, including The
Strip, Fremont Street in Downtown, along Boulder Highway on the east side
as well as some of the places south and west of Interstate 15.
I spent a day in southern Utah (Cedar City and St. George) for a day. The
views in southern Utah were very scenic and colourful. Along the way,
I drove through Mesquite, Nevada as well as the extreme northwestern corner
of Arizona. I headed south into southern Nevada stopping in Primm
before crossing into California.
I
spent a couple of days in San Diego visiting downtown and the San Diego
Zoo. From there, I crossed the border into Mexico, visiting a country
other than the US for the first time. I spent a few hours in Tijuana,
Baja California. There are lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Although
the official language is Spanish (and some even spoke to me in Spanish),
many of the locals spoke English and accepted US dollars for currency. I
purchased a couple of shirts, a blanket and a couple of "gold" chains. Crossing
back into the US was another story.
I
headed north into the Los Angeles/Orange County area, staying for a couple
of days. I spent the day at Disneyland in Anaheim as well as my old
neighborhoods in Torrance and Redondo Beach. I continued north and east
visiting Barstow and Needles in California, Kingman, Arizona, and Laughlin,
Nevada. I spent the last two days of my vacation in Las Vegas, doing mostly
shopping. The trip concluded with a Pacific hurricane that landed in
the Baja peninsula and the southwestern United States (resulting in an interesting
plane ride home).
